While depersonalization involves detachment from one's self, individuals with derealization feel detached from their surroundings, as if the world around them is foggy, dreamlike, or visually distorted. Individuals with depersonalization describe feeling disconnected from their physicality feeling as if they are not completely occupying their own body feeling as if their speech or physical movements are out of their control feeling detached from their own thoughts or emotions and experiencing themselves and their lives from a distance. People who are diagnosed with depersonalization also often experience an urge to question and think critically about the nature of reality and existence. The core symptoms of depersonalization-derealization disorder is the subjective experience of "unreality in one's self", or detachment from one's surroundings. While brief episodes of depersonalization or derealization can be common in the general population, the disorder is only diagnosed when these symptoms cause substantial distress or impair social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. The chronic form of the disorder has a reported prevalence of 0.8 to 1.9%. It also stabilizes the camera better when it's against my face, tucked in there with my arms against me, instead of awkwardly holding something in mid-air-as Michael Reichmann used to say, "like holding a baby with a full diaper". I'm also a lefty so my right eye can't see much else anyway. It isolates the frame better, I can concentrate on my framing/composition when my eye is looking in there with everything else around black. The viewfinder does several things for me: Personally, I need a viewfinder when working handheld. So what do you guys use, and why? Is there some common practice or benefit to using the viewfinder that I don't know?Įach person has preferences for these kinds of things and it's fine-it doesn't matter that other people don't do things the same way you do, don't worry about it. It makes me so self-conscious that I actually force myself to use the viewfinder sometimes if my sessions are being filmed-which is totally silly, obviously, because no one cares what I'm using (right?). That said, I've definitely heard and seen that most folks use the viewfinder. I also incorporate a lot of movement in my shooting and I find using the LCD screen keeps me more fluid. Using the LCD screen helps me "feel" out the image better, allowing me to frame while composing and still interacting with the subject. But I don't wear glasses half the time so I never bothered with it. I have astigmatism so I need to either wear glasses to shoot and pull focus accurately, or adjust the viewfinder to my eyes. I also used the LCD screen or external screens for filmmaking throughout film school, so I'm just used to it. I was raised on and currently use digital cameras, so the optical viewfinder never felt vital to me. I use the LCD screen in almost all shooting scenarios, for a few reasons: I've been self-conscious about this and wondering it for a while. ![]() ![]() ![]() Things are a little fuzzy when it comes to the VC-1 1080p transfers (aspect ratios: 1.78:1 for 'Bloodsport' and 2.35:1 for 'Timecop'), and I mean that quite literally: the image softness on these transfers is very gauzy and noticeable. Still, this double feature falls way short of an earlier Warner Bros. ![]() 'Timecop' is just as lousy a movie as 'Bloodsport,' although infinitely more watchable, thanks to the visual oomph the mostly overlooked director Peter Hyams brings to the project, some neat-o (but still dated) set pieces, and the fact that you get to see Mia Sara, Sloane from ' Ferris Bueller's Day Off,' naked (fake boobs though – boo). Where did it go? And when you come BACK to the time travel center, you come back in the vehicle? I don't get it. We're shown that you have to get into a rig, which looks kind of like a carnival ride crossed with the vehicles from 'Star Tours,' which shoots you into a void, at which point you pop up at some designated spot in time. Take, for instance, the time travel technology. None of this makes any kind of sense, of course, but even greater inconsistencies arise. This plot thread, at some point, reconciles itself with the "bad guys rampaging through time" element, which includes the work of a slimy senator played by the dearly departed Ron Silver. Except that, of course, his wife is killed by people associated with the time travel technology and it sets him on a quest for vengeance. Except that it doesn't.īecause, just like alternate 1985 in ' Back to the Future II,' there's a parallel story that hamstrings any of the kind of gee-whiz techno coolness of 'Timecop.' This story is one of JCVD, who is a cop named Max Walker (yes, seriously) who gets recruited by the time agency to be a Timecop. Okay, cool right? This is going somewhere. In an early, more arresting sequence in the film, some time interlopers rob a cavalry of Confederate gold, using high tech weapons. You see, it takes place in a time where time travel has been invented and there are nefarious people using it for very nefarious means. I mean, beyond the failure of the basic plot mechanics of the film. We're really here to discuss 'Timecop,' a movie that I found absolutely befuddling this time around. If you love fighting, watch 'Bloodsport.' Anyone else should be directed elsewhere in the Muscles from Brussels' oeuvre, like the underrated 'Die Hard'-in-a-hockey-stadium thriller 'Sudden Death.' That, at least, has Powers Boothe flagrantly chewing scenery. ![]() It lacks the wit and energy of something like ' Road House,' and is too serious and grisly for anyone looking for anything besides people getting kicked in the head, to find appealing. The movie is so bone-headed and bombastic that it's not even worth discussing. But under-heralded 'Hard Target' actually has some level of artistry, and (as noted several times in ' JCVD') is noteworthy as the English language debut of Hong Kong director John Woo (as well as for going through 17 cuts with the MPAA before securing an R-rating).īut back to the movie, er, movies at hand. They were even released in subsequent years. Bizarre, I know.Ī more suitable double-feature bill, I would argue, would be 'Timecop' and 'Hard Target,' since they were both released by Universal and produced, oddly enough, by filmmaker Sam Raimi. I guess it must have to do with the ever-shifting science of distribution and rights-holding, because 'Bloodsport' was released by the now-defunct B-movie studio Cannon Films (greatest logo ever) and 'Timecop' was put out by Universal Pictures. Why, exactly, 'Bloodsport,' the so-cheesy-it's-still-cheesy action flick that has somehow garnered a cult reputation, and 'Timecop,' an ambitious if not-exactly-successful comic book adaptation, are on the same disc isn't made explicitly clear, beyond the link of main star Jean-Claude Van Damme. ![]() ![]() 4 unique new cards as well as 1 copy of Soul Crossing a brand-new Quick-Play Spell Card included in both Decks that lets you Tribute Summon your Egyptian God Card by Tributing your opponents monsters!Įach Deck is playable on its own straight out of the box and comes with a Dueling Guide that explains the basic strategy and some rules you should know to get the most out of your Deck.
